UEFA welcomes Swiss Federal Tribunal decision
UEFA welcomes the news that the Swiss Federal Tribunal (SFT) has rendered an important decision which fully supports UEFA’s fight against match-fixing.
In its detailed and thorough decision, the SFT rejected all the arguments raised by the club KS Skënderbeu in its appeal against the CAS award 2018/A/5734 of 12 July 2019 and confirmed the club's 10 years suspension from all UEFA club competitions for its involvement in activities aimed at arranging the outcome of matches.
In particular, the SFT ruled on three important aspects of the UEFA's disciplinary proceedings for match-fixing, by confirming that:
• UEFA's two-step disciplinary procedure (administrative first and then disciplinary) is fully justified and compliant with the law
• the Betting Fraud Detection System used by UEFA to detect activities of match-fixing is credible and reliable
• UEFA’s regulations to punish clubs for match-fixing do not require its disciplinary bodies to identify the individual(s) who committed an act of match-fixing in order to punish the team itself
UEFA very much welcomes this decision, which confirms the appropriateness and efficiency of the framework put in place by UEFA to combat the scourge of match-fixing.
