Weightlifting Athlete Erik Nunez Accepts Sanction for Anti-Doping Rule Violation

USADA announced today that Erik Nunez, of Roswell, N.M., an athlete in the sport of weightlifting, has accepted a four-year suspension for an anti-doping rule violation.
Nunez, 31, tested positive for GW1516 (GW501516, Cardarine) metabolites GW1516 sulfone and GW1516 sulfoxide as the result of an in-competition drug test conducted at the American Open Series 2 on July 26, 2019. GW1516 is a non-Specified Substance in the category of Hormone and Metabolic Modulators and is prohibited at all times under the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee National Anti-Doping Policies, and the International Weightlifting Federation Anti-Doping Policy, all of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code and the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List.
Nunez’s four-year period of ineligibility began on July 26, 2019, the date his positive sample was collected. In addition, Nunez has been disqualified from competitive results obtained on and subsequent to July 26, 2019, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes.
