THE INTERNATIONAL TESTING AGENCY (ITA), LEADING AN INDEPENDENT ANTI-DOPING PROGRAM FOR THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE (IOC) AND THE UNITED WORLD WRESTLING UNION (UWW), ASSERTS AN APPARENT ANTI-DOPING RULE VIOLATION (ADRV) AGAINST KAZAKSTAN WRESTLER ASKHAT DILMUKHAMEDOV. THIS IS THE FIRST APPARENT ADRV RESULTING FROM A TARGETED DOPING CONTROL CARRIED OUT BY THE ITA DURING IOC’S EXTENDED TESTING AUTHORITY IN THE LEAD-UP TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES TOKYO 2020.

IOC publishes Tokyo 2020 Sport-Specific Regulations

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) this week published the Tokyo 2020 Sport-Specific Regulations (SSRs), which aim to determine how any impact of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case would be managed in competition formats and structures at these Games. The regulations have been jointly developed between the IOC and the International Federations (IFs) whose sports are on the Olympic programme of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Whilst spectators may not be able to attend Tokyo 2020 in person, fans around the world and in Japan will be able to experience the thrill of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 thanks to new, innovative technologies. Tokyo 2020 will be broadcast globally to a potential audience of over 5 billion people, with more coverage by broadcast partners than any previous Olympic Games across both linear TV and digital:

  • In Japan, TV coverage of Tokyo 2020 is expected to be around double that of Rio 2016.

  • In the USA, NBCUniversal will air more than 7,000 hours of coverage across TV and digital platforms – a US Olympic record. 

  • Across Europe, Discovery Eurosport will air up to 4,000 hours of live coverage on its TV and digital platforms. This unprecedented level of content will be available in 50 territories.

38 suspicious betting alerts reported by IBIA in Q2 2021

14 July 2021: The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) reported 38 cases of suspicious betting to the relevant authorities during the second quarter (Q2) of 2021. The Q2 2021 total represents a 41% decrease in reported alerts when compared to the Q1 total of 64 and represents a similar decrease when compared to the Q2 2020 total, which saw 65 alerts. The Q2 alerts covered football (16 cases), table tennis (9), tennis (6), eSports (6) and beach volleyball (1). From a geographical perspective, Europe accounted for nearly half (47%) of all alerts reported, followed by Asia and South America with 13% each.

Independent Concussion Consultants to be introduced to support Graduated Return to Play process in elite rugby

World Rugby has announced details of a major programme that will further objective care of elite players returning to play following a confirmed concussion.

Starting this month, a panel of Independent Concussion Consultants (ICC) will be made available to the game to provide independent expert opinion on whether a player should return to play following the successful completion of the six-stage Graduated Return to Play process for elite competitions. The panel of ICC experts will be funded by World Rugby.
