IOC publishes Tokyo 2020 Sport-Specific Regulations

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) this week published the Tokyo 2020 Sport-Specific Regulations (SSRs), which aim to determine how any impact of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case would be managed in competition formats and structures at these Games. The regulations have been jointly developed between the IOC and the International Federations (IFs) whose sports are on the Olympic programme of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Whilst spectators may not be able to attend Tokyo 2020 in person, fans around the world and in Japan will be able to experience the thrill of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 thanks to new, innovative technologies. Tokyo 2020 will be broadcast globally to a potential audience of over 5 billion people, with more coverage by broadcast partners than any previous Olympic Games across both linear TV and digital:

In Japan, TV coverage of Tokyo 2020 is expected to be around double that of Rio 2016.
In the USA, NBCUniversal will air more than 7,000 hours of coverage across TV and digital platforms – a US Olympic record.
Across Europe, Discovery Eurosport will air up to 4,000 hours of live coverage on its TV and digital platforms. This unprecedented level of content will be available in 50 territories.

£750 fine - A breach of Rule (J)24 of the Rules of Racing in that he did not complete the BHA’s mandatory online Safeguarding training which all trainers are required to complete in order to comply with the licensing requirements imposed on them. Reminder letters were sent to all trainers on 24 September 2020, 17 November 2020 and 8 December 2020. Also, the National Trainers Federation published in their newsletter reminders to all trainers on 30 September 2019, 31 January 2020, 6 November 2020 and 3 December 2020. On 27 January 2021 a final letter was sent to him advising that the training had to be completed by yourself by 3 February 2021

IOC Executive Board receives update on the International Weightlifting Federation

Last week, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) received updates regarding the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the two latest developments: the findings of the International Testing Agency (ITA)’s investigative report, published on 24 June 2021, and the outcome of the IWF Constitutional Congress held on 30 June 2021.

WORKING GROUP ON THE REVIEW OF WADA GOVERNANCE REFORMS

A small Working Group of governance experts was established by the WADA Executive Committee at its November 2020 meeting. The composition of this new Working Group on the Review of WADA Governance Reforms includes seven governance experts (two proposed by Governments, two by the Sport Movement, one independent Chair, and two expert athletes (nominated by WADA’s Athlete Committee). One of the athletes (Chelsey Gotell) was added to the Group in March 2021 following the decision of the Executive Committee in November 2020, that the Group could be expanded with an additional athlete, subject to an appropriate athlete expert being put forward by the WADA Athlete Committee. An essential part of the work of this Group will be to consult all stakeholders, including athletes and NADOs, using a wide-ranging consultation process in the same spirit as the one used for past World Anti-Doping Code reviews.
