FIFA INTEGRITY BRIEFINGS COMPLETED AHEAD OF TOKYO 2020

With the Tokyo 2020 Olympics fast approaching, FIFA has completed a series of integrity briefings with the participating teams and referees in order to raise awareness of potential threats to the game and outline FIFA’s preventative measures.

The sessions included practical examples on critical situations that team members and referees may face before, during or after the competition, as well as details on the appropriate mechanisms to report any incident relating to match manipulation.

British horseracing supports investigation into abattoir images

The BBC’s Panorama programme has tonight broadcast pictures which, it suggests, show horses, including former racehorses, being euthanised in circumstances which may have harmed their welfare. They also reported that some of the horses had been transported from Ireland to a British abattoir.

Little, Adair and Tector breach ICC Code of Conduct

Ireland player Josh Little has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee while his team-mates Mark Adair and Harry Tector have been reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in separate incidents during the third match of their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League series against South Africa in Malahide on Friday.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has launched the Doping Control Guide for Testing Athletes in Para Sport to assist anti-doping organisations and those working out in the field, collecting samples from Para athletes for anti-doping purposes ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.    

Updated Covid-19 Guidelines and Operating Procedures for race meetings from 19 July

The BHA has today shared updated COVID-19 Guidelines and Operating Procedures that will apply at British race meetings from Monday 19 July 2021.

This follows the publication yesterday of specific guidance for sports and large events in England, and announcements from the Scottish and Welsh Governments about their own plans for easing COVID-19 measures.

20 JULY 2021, MONACO: The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) today revealed details of its testing programme in the lead-up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The AIU’s testing programme is highly targeted and intelligence-led and is aimed at the elite Registered Testing Pool that consists of 782 athletes from 77 countries including 315 athletes who are a part of an extended road running pool. The focus is on the quality of testing, developing individual testing plans for each athlete, while also maintaining the volume that is required for a comprehensive programme in a global sport like athletics.

Six Moroccan tennis players provisionally suspended

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) today confirms that six tennis players from Morocco have been provisionally suspended by independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO) Charles Hollander QC, pending an inquiry into match fixing allegations. The players are: Amine Ahouda, Anas Chakrouni, Ayoub Chakrouni, Mohamed Zakaria Khalil, Soufiane El Mesbahi and Yassir Kilani.

38 suspicious betting alerts reported by IBIA in Q2 2021

14 July 2021: The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) reported 38 cases of suspicious betting to the relevant authorities during the second quarter (Q2) of 2021. The Q2 2021 total represents a 41% decrease in reported alerts when compared to the Q1 total of 64 and represents a similar decrease when compared to the Q2 2020 total, which saw 65 alerts. The Q2 alerts covered football (16 cases), table tennis (9), tennis (6), eSports (6) and beach volleyball (1). From a geographical perspective, Europe accounted for nearly half (47%) of all alerts reported, followed by Asia and South America with 13% each.

Independent Concussion Consultants to be introduced to support Graduated Return to Play process in elite rugby

World Rugby has announced details of a major programme that will further objective care of elite players returning to play following a confirmed concussion.

Starting this month, a panel of Independent Concussion Consultants (ICC) will be made available to the game to provide independent expert opinion on whether a player should return to play following the successful completion of the six-stage Graduated Return to Play process for elite competitions. The panel of ICC experts will be funded by World Rugby.

On 1 July 2021 the independent Disciplinary Panel of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) sat to consider the appeal from the owner and trainer of DRAGON SYMBOL, (ridden by Oisin Murphy) against the finding on 18 June 2021 of the Ascot Stewards who reversed the placings in The Commonwealth Cup (Class 1) (Group 1) (British Championship Series) over 6f where DRAGON SYMBOL was first past the post beating CAMPANELLE (IRE) (ridden by Frankie Dettori) by a head.

. Separately, Mr Murphy was found guilty of careless riding and suspended for four days. That decision is not the subject of any appeal.

£100 fine - A breach of Rule (D)28 of the Rules of Racing in that when LOOSE LIPS ran at Newcastle on 24 June 2021 he had not informed the Racing Calendar Office that the horse had been gelded before the deadline as required. The Chairman noted that notification had been given but not until after declarations.

THIS PROGRAM IS A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT BETWEEN THE ITA, NATIONAL AND REGIONAL ANTI-DOPING ORGANISATIONS AND INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC SUMMER FEDERATIONS AND DEMONSTRATES A GLOBAL MOTIVATION TO ENSURE A LEVEL-PLAYING FIELD IN THE RUN-UP TO THE GAMES. IT CONSTITUTES THE MOST EXTENSIVE ANTI-DOPING PROGRAM EVER IMPLEMENTED AHEAD OF AN EDITION OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES.

First ECA Executive Board meeting chaired by Nassar Al-Khelaifi

The ECA Executive Board met today in Munich for its first in-person meeting since February 2020, convened by new ECA Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and attended by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. The meeting came at a time of continuing challenge for the game in light of the ongoing impacts felt due to the COVID pandemic and the ramifications of the ill-fated European Super League (ESL) project.
