NFL concussion settlement claims submission portal now open

American football player in white jersey

Press Release

24 March 2017

Retired NFL players and their representatives must register by August 7, 2017 to qualify for settlement benefits

The NFL concussion settlement claims submission portal is now open, meaning class members can submit monetary award fund claims for review. All former players and their representatives must first register for the settlement before submitting a claims package. Failing to register before the August 7, 2017 deadline will make them ineligible to receive any settlement benefits.

Compensable conditions include Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, Level 2 Neurological Impairment (i.e. moderate Dementia), Level 1.5 Neurological Impairment (i.e. early Dementia) and certain diagnoses of Death with CTE for Retired NFL Football Players who died before April 22, 2015. The Claims Administrator will provide the forms necessary to submit a complete claim package, which can also be found at:
www.nflconcussionsettlement.com.

Although a qualifying diagnosis may be made at any time during the 65-year term of the settlement, the deadline to submit a claim package is based on the date of the retired NFLplayer’s diagnosis. Retired NFL players (and representative claimants for retired NFL players) who are diagnosed on or before February 6, 2017, must submit claims for monetary awards by February 6, 2019. Retired NFL players (and representative claimants for retired NFL players) who were diagnosed after February 6, 2017, have two years from the date of diagnosis to submit claims. Derivative claimants must submit claims no later than 30 days after their retired NFL players or representative claimants receive notice of an entitlement to a monetary award.

The opening of the claims portal is an important milestone in the implementation of this settlement,” said Christopher Seeger, co-lead class counsel. “I urge all class members who have yet to register for the settlement to do so now so that they can obtain benefits – whether that is a baseline assessment or monetary award fund claim.”

All retired NFL players and/or their authorized representatives are invited to join a webinar led by Christopher Seeger at 6:30 PM EDT on March 28, 2017 in which he will discuss thesettlement benefits, answer questions and detail how to register for benefits and submit claims.
