The Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation files an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)

8 December 2015 – The Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation (BWF) has filed an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a decision issued by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) on 9 November 2015 in which it was fined USD 500,000 and banned from entering the next Youth Olympic and Olympic Games after 11 of its athletes were found to have committed anti-doping rule violations.
In appealing to the CAS, the BWF seeks to have the IWF’s decision annulled. Together with its appeal, the BWF also filed a request to stay the execution of the challenged decision. A decision on this point is expected to be issued in the coming weeks.
