U SPORTS Football Athlete Suspended for the Presence of SARM LGD-4033

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) confirmed today that Malcom Lee, a U SPORTS football athlete affiliated with the University of British Columbia, received a sanction of four years for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete’s urine sample, collected during out-of-competition doping control on March 22, 2019, revealed the presence of SARM LGD-4033, a prohibited anabolic agent.

On April 26, 2019, the CCES announced an asserted anti-doping rule violation against Mr. Lee in advance of the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) draft, as is permitted by Rule 14.3.1 of the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP).

In response to the CCES’s notification of the adverse analytical finding, Mr. Lee admitted the violation in a timely fashion (in accordance with CADP Rule 10.11.2). Following an agreed schedule of proceedings between both the CCES and athlete, a hearing was held on October 22 and December 16, 2019 to determine the sanction length. Arbitrator Simon Margolis confirmed the violation and imposed a sanction of four years ineligibility from sport, terminating March 21, 2023. During the sanction period, the athlete, who resides in Surrey, BC, is ineligible to participate in any capacity with any sport signatory to the CADP, including training with teammates.

 Le Centre canadien pour l’éthique dans le sport (CCES) a confirmé aujourd’hui que Malcom Lee, un athlète de football de U SPORTS affilié à l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique, s’est vu imposer une suspension de quatre ans pour une violation des règles antidopage. L’échantillon d’urine de l’athlète, prélevé dans le cadre d’un contrôle du dopage hors compétition le 22 mars 2019, a révélé la présence de SARM LGD-4033, un agent anabolisant interdit.

Le 26 avril 2019, le CCES a annoncé une violation alléguée des règles antidopage contre M. Lee avant le repêchage de la Ligue canadienne de football (LCF), comme le permet la règle 14.3.1 du Programme canadien antidopage (PCA).

En réponse à la notification par le CCES concernant ce résultat d’analyse anormal, M. Lee a avoué, sans délai, la violation (conformément à la règle 10.11.2 du PCA). À la suite d’un accord mutuel entre l’athlète et le CCES sur un échéancier convenu des procédures, une audience s’est déroulée le 22 octobre et le 16 décembre 2019 pour déterminer la période de suspension appropriée. L’arbitre Simon Margolis a confirmé la violation et a imposé une sanction de quatre ans prenant fin le 21 mars 2023. Durant la période de la sanction, il est interdit à l’athlète, qui réside à Surrey en Colombie-Britannique, de participer à quelque titre que ce soit à un sport signataire du PCA, y compris de s’entraîner avec ses coéquipiers.
