Vinicius Rangel Costa sanctioned by UCI for Whereabouts Failures
The International Testing Agency (ITA) reports that Brazilian cyclist Vinicius Rangel Costa has been sanctioned with a 20-month period of ineligibility by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) following a whereabouts-related Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV).
The violation results from three whereabouts failures committed within a 12-month period, in accordance with Article 2.4 of the World Anti-Doping Code and the UCI Anti-Doping Rules. Such failures may include a combination of missed tests and/or failures to submit accurate whereabouts information and constitute a sanctionable offence under the global anti-doping framework.
The rider accepted the consequences as foreseen under the rules. The period of ineligibility commenced on 27 August 2025 and will remain in effect until 26 April 2027.
While this case falls under the UCI’s authority for results management and prosecution, the ITA supports these proceedings through the implementation of an independent and intelligence-led anti-doping program for cycling, delegated by the UCI since January 2021. The ITA’s Cycling Unit oversees testing, investigations, long-term strategies, and coordination with stakeholders across all cycling disciplines.
As the matter is now resolved, no further comment will be issued.
